ABOUT THE ROLE

As a DB2 System Specialist / Developer, you will be responsible for developing, operating, and optimizing a critical DB2 on Linux database environment supporting a large-scale insurance core system in Germany. The role includes database administration, application development, and ensuring the availability, performance, and consistency of data across development, test, and production environments.

A key part of the role is managing and monitoring daily ETL-based data provisioning processes that deliver high-volume delta data to downstream systems such as BI and sales platforms within defined SLAs. You will also support archive services and contribute to release changes, incident resolution, performance optimization, and ongoing system enhancements.

The position involves close collaboration with business and IT stakeholders, adherence to strict security and compliance standards, and participation in on-call and off-hours production support when required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Application development (implementation of user stories) and clarification of production issues related to project services.

  • Analysis and understanding of business requirements related to the specific business area.

  • Implementation of necessary changes in running applications (e.g. legal and technical requirements, release changes, maintenance).

  • Implementation of release changes, including required off-hours availability, based on defined release schemes and procedures.

  • Standby duty and implementation of changes on the production system during nights and weekends when required, especially at year-end.

  • Business-driven enhancements and optimizations of running applications (e.g. closing functional gaps, improving processes, optimizing performance and/or resource consumption).

  • Adherence to security and compliance standards, typically driven by regulatory requirements such as VAIT and DORA.

  • Elimination of functional and technical errors.

  • Problem management (error categorization, estimation, resolution, user support, ticket processing).

  • Resolution of availability issues in applications and systems (system downtime, application aborts, etc.).

  • Checking and correcting data inconsistencies and performing corrective measures.

  • Software development according to predefined specifications (technical requirements, implementation concepts, IT guidelines, IT concepts).

  • Collaboration in the creation of technical and implementation concepts, as well as development, validation, and deployment of solutions.

  • Monitoring of the daily ETL data provisioning chain.

  • Incident management.

  • Analysis and optimization of performance issues.

  • Ensuring documentation is kept up to date.

REQUIREMENTS

  • DB2 LuW and Linux Knowhow.

  • Fluent written and spoken German, able to communicate effectively and customer-oriented.

  • ABS KnowHow desirable.

  • Know-how in complex ETL processes with large amounts of data.

  • Five years or more experience as a DB2/Mainframe developer with extensive know-how in DB2 environments.

  • PL1 programming language, SQL queries, JCL, UC4 .

  • Knowledge and experience in using of the ETL-Connect tool for high-performance processing of large files, e.g. sorting, merging, modification and joining or similar like IBM tool Syncsort.

  • Willingness and readiness to travel as required by project or client needs is expected. This may include occasional domestic or international travel, sometimes on short notice.
